Spring has finally arrived and, touch wood, is set to stay for the remainder of my time in the UK. Huzzah!
Today I walked about 18km from Ambleside to Grasmere (via Rydal Cave near Loughrigg Terrace), stopped for lunch (and exploring) in Grasmere, then headed back along the Coffin Route to Ambleside via Rydal.
Coffin Route, as the name suggests is the path that was once used to carry coffins from Grasmere to Rydal for burial - a real feat as it is very steep in some places and precarious in others.
Highlights
Lots of dogs - black Labradors are a local favourite
Lots of sheep and spring lambs - the bleating is carried on the wind across tarns and fells and it’s a joy to hear
Glorious walking weather
Nature!
I’ve popped some photos in the gallery.
P.S. I’m staying in a very lovely B&B in Ambleside - Haven Cottage. The hosts (Amanda and Mark) are lovely, the doggies (Martha and Molly) are adorable, and the coffee is great.
sounds lovely. And great weather! V
